Dogs available in the uk

poppy

Poppy is currently in County Durham and she is looking for a new home because her owner sadly has mobility issues.

Poppy is a Beagle and she is 6 years old (DOB 1/6/2019). Poppy came over from Spain in August 2023 as she was found in a pound, pregnant. She had a healthy litter of puppies. She tested negative to Mediterranean diseases.

Poppy can be a nervous girl as she had a tough start in life but she likes her routine and structure. She does get unsettled if anything new is added to her life. She can be reactive on lead to other dogs but not all dogs – there does not appear to be a trigger to work on. She will need someone patient and experienced to help her.

She loves her walks and gets very excited to go but she has zero recall so Poppy is not a dog that can be off lead. She loves a good sniff and is a true scenthound. She can be triggered by men, hi viz jackets and mobility scooters.

At home, she loves her comfy bed and will sleep well during the day and at night. She is crate trained and will go in her crate for a few hours if she is left. She loves to be brushed and pampered. She travels well in the car.

She is a little “guard dog” and will alert her owner to a delivery coming to the house by barking.

She can live with other dogs and a meet up would be advised first. Cats are unknown.

henry

This is Henry and he is 1 year old (DOB 13/7/2024). He is currently with his owners in Essex. Henry is being rehomed as he is a very active dog who needs an active family. He lives with older dogs who are not impressed with his play so the tough decision has been made to find him a new home.

So we need for Henry and active family who are out on walks a lot, someone who is around the house a lot too as he is not used to being on his own. He could live with another dog but it must be a dog that can cope with high energy and of a similar age. An older dog would not work for Henry.

Henry is a Sabueso Hound with a prey drive so a home with cats or small furries is not recommended.

He is strong on the lead and will pull but he does love a good run around a secure enclosed field. Henry is currently 29kg and has recently been neutered.

Henry is a gangley & clumsy boy who doesn't know his own size so a home without young children is also recommended.

Henry is very affectionate boy with a lot to give to the right home.

bonny

Bonny is in foster care in Nottingham and is now ready for her forever home.

Bonny is 2 years old (DOB 10/2/2023) and she is an active little soul. She can be like the Duracell bunny when she will keep going for a couple of hours then flops! She is a young girl with her puppy nature coming through. She would suit an active family who like to get out and about with lots of lovely walks. She would also need another dog to live with as she loves her dog friends at her foster home.

Bonny is a bit of a chewer if she is not stimulated enough which will also pass once she finally settles into her new home. Also more activities will help her too. She travels well in the car.

She has been left for a couple of hours with her doggie friends and is fine. She loves dog company & loves to play so this is a must for her. She loves being cuddled too, a lovely affectionate girl. She has been with children over 10 years old and loved to play with them too.

Bonny needs a dog to play with that can cope with her energy levels or she can annoy other dogs. She loves to play and run until she is ready to rest. This is an absolute must!!

nacho

This is Nacho and he is 4 years old (DOB 4/10/21). He is a Sabueso Hound. He is currently with his owner in Bedfordshire and he is looking for a new home which has been a tough decision to make.

Nacho really needs to be an only dog. He is living with 2 dogs but it is not working out and he has to be separated from them. So we need to find him a home where he can have his freedom more often in the garden and be the goofy boy that he is.

He loves his garden, running to try to chase the pigeons and squirrels. Not many dogs like the rain but Nacho does! A nice little soaking and then indoors for a towel rub.

He likes to settle on the sofa in the evening for his calm time and sleeps in his crate from 10pm to 7am quite happily.
Nacho lives in a quiet area so he doesn’t see much traffic. When he does he is a bit nervous by it including tractors. He can be wary of strangers. He can be a little strong on the lead. As a scenthound, his recall is very hit and miss so he is only off lead in the garden or in a secure field.

Nacho is a very bright boy and a bit of a Houdini if allowed. So here are the bits you need to watch out for! He can open doors even if the door is locked but the key is in the door, he has worked out how to turn the key until it unlocks – wow! So locked doors need the keys taken out for Nacho. He can slip his collar quickly so when walked he still needs to be on a harness and a slip lead.

He loves his toys but can be destructive with them including bedding. He just needs some tough bedding and toys to stop him in his tracks.

Nacho has been around children of 7 and 10 years old without any problems.

Nacho has not really been left for any length of time, only a couple of hours a week so we need a home where someone is home daily for him.

rufus

UPDATE:  Rufus is in need of a new foster home or adoption ASAP as his foster placement has come to an end as another dog needs help. Rufus is ready for a new home. He has been living with other dogs but the dogs must be calm and submissive. Rufus can display resource guarding in the early days so this must be considered for his new home.

He is also a strong boy so he would need someone strong to walk him until he has burnt off his energy. He has a strong prey drive so he would need to be on lead, lunge lead or secure field off lead.

This handsome boy is Rufus & he is a Grand Griffon Vendeen. He is 5 years old (Dob 01/06/2020) and he is currently in foster care in Bolton, Manchester. Prior to this he was in a shelter after being released from the pound where he spent 3 years.

Rufus is a big strong boy with a hunting instinct. He can be strong on the lead for a while until he has burnt off his energy. This is improving.

He has good manners out and about with other dogs, male or female. He is good off leash in an enclosed area and will follow what other dogs are doing. In the home, he can be grumbly with other dogs.

Rufus is very affectionate to humans and does favour people than other dogs. He is very independent so a home as an only dog would probably suit him better as long as he had lots of human attention. He could be with older children but due to his size he would not probably suit little children.

Rufus was cat tested in Spain but once he arrived in his foster home, he did chase the cats so he would suit a home without cats.

rafa

This is gorgeous Rafa and he is currently in Nottinghamshire.  He is approx 2.5 years old and weighs 19kgs.

Rafa is very obedient and well mannered within the house – not food possessive and will sit and wait patiently on his bed and wait for food, sit and offer his paw before dish being put down.   He won’t attempt to steal from other (female) dogs fed in the same space, and doesn’t react when they sniff around his empty dish. He doesn’t beg.

Rafa is not destructive – he doesn’t chew or scratch furniture.  He is not anxious when being left alone (usually has another dog for company).  Rafa is housetrained (but may scent mark in a new space – did this for a few months after we adopted him. Will mark territory in garden).

Good traveller – Rafa enjoys being in the car and will look out of the window most of the time.

Loves a donut bed and will happily hunker down in that.

Doesn’t mind being bathed, and loves being brushed.

Loves human contact, being stroked / petted. Makes a ‘grumbly’ noise.

Rafa is intelligent, picks things up quickly and is good with a crate.

He loves walking / adventures. Has never experienced a town, so it’s all been rural.

Rafa has learned to be playful, he can become quite physical / exuberant. He is still in the process of learning what to do with toys.  Rafa is excellent at the vets – being examined and vaccinations / kennel cough.

Dislikes / Negatives:

Rafa has become jealous of other dogs, particularly resident male.  He is possessive when it comes to contact / attention from ‘his’ humans.

Rafa will plonk his paws on you and jump up, onto hind legs to ensure he gets your attention. He’s can be heavy footed.
Rafa has gone for the other resident male causing injury to their ear. No aggression toward the female dogs, but he has a tendency to see them off from ‘his’ humans and activities.  Rafa reacts to other dogs outside the home (barking and / or lunging toward them). We’ve done a lot of work on this and he has improved, but will need to continue with training.
He has clearly had some bad experiences in Spain – very nervous of raised voices and behaves deferentially when he’s done something naughty – hops on bed, raises paw.

While he loves going for walks, he can be very nervous – on the main road - big vehicles, tractors, etc Usually this can result in him shrinking back, but recently he tried hopping over a wall. With motorbikes and vehicles towing trailers carrying loose, rattling items, he will lunge towards them.  This is very dangerous and you have to be constantly vigilant to anticipate his response.  He’s walked on a harness with a grab handle – fastened at chest and back – to ensure maximum control.  Very interested in wildlife – birds, rabbits etc, and deer. He must be kept must be kept in a lead unless he is in a secure area as he will chase.  Occasionally will transfer him onto a flexi-lead when we’re on rural lanes away from traffic, but he’s very strong and needs to learn to listen when on the lead.

Rafa will make a really rewarding companion for a strong, confident, and experienced owner.

He shouldn’t live in a household with children or with someone elderly in the home due to his strength.
