Don't buy a puppy, rescue a griffon

Picture
Griffons are scenthounds used as tools for hunting in Spain, Italy or France.  They have a life in kennels starved of affection, human company and stimulation.  Their lives are basic and sheltered.  All they know is life with dogs to train to hunt prey, then returned to their kennels for days at a time.  They often end up discarded in pounds or rehoming shelters, or even worse at the end of the hunting season as there is no longer a need for them and they will cost money to feed.  Some dogs are abandoned earlier in the season if they are not strong hunters compared to other dogs.  Some dogs have been harshly treated to make them hunt better but it just breaks their soul.  Life as a hunting dog is not easy at all but we strive to make a difference to the ones that are abandoned or given up.

So we help these dogs to get a new life where they become a pet at long last.  They will learn to live in a home although the majority have never experienced this and find their way onto your sofa and become fabulous members of the family.  To watch these rescue dogs flourish is truly rewarding and you wonder who rescued who?  All they need is time and patience to come on at their own pace, to learn a new life and to deal with new experiences.  Recall cannot be guaranteed with this breed of dogs because they are scenthounds and have been trained to hunt so their safety has to be a priority to adopt one of these lovely dogs.  We do have strict rules about height of fencing in gardens and hedges need to be backed up with fencing as the early weeks these dogs can be a flight risk until they bond with their new family plus they can be scent driven.

Please read our information section which explains about the history of the Griffons, the breeds plus plenty of information about training and settling your new rescue dog.  If you have what it takes to offer these dogs a home then please look at the dogs available in Spain, Italy and the UK.
